What’s your opinion about sending Korean army overseas?
Open Discussion! CNPK’s peace café is the place for you to speak frankly about what’s on your mind! This time, we are going to exchange our thoughts on the issue of ‘Sending Korean troops overseas.” Since the pitiful death of Sergeant Yoon Jang-Ho, it has become a hot issue. After the death of sergeant Yoon, critics and concerned voices on the aggression of US on Iraq and Afghanistan and blinded participation of Korean government along with US raised questions sharply. It has revealed that ‘humanistic support’ or ‘peaceful reconstruction’ had been a mere attractive slogan on the surface. Here, Let’s think a bit further! Putting aside the issues of Afghanistan and Iraq, what if a newly built nation, which probably could not establish a self-supporting administration, not to mention a democratic voting system and the safety of its civilians from nonselective violence, appeals its situation to UN and international community for requesting troops especially ‘our’ troops to their country? In case of Rwanda, the disputes between tribes called for massacre and created thousands of refugees. Like this instance, what if the interference of international community and forced military intervention are urgently demanded? Should we join the military action of international community? Or should we find other ways to assist the nation other than ‘the military action?’ if we were to choose ‘other ways,’ what kind of alternatives can we think of? Could that be so-called humanistic? This coming Wednesday, we are going to freely exchange thoughts like this on the peace café. Of course, there is no right answer! We gather to share each other’s questions, concerns and more. So, don’t ever get “I am interested in that topic… but I don’t know much of it…” kind of attitude and come and join us : ) Especially, the upcoming peace café is held in ‘E-Um Art.’ It is a recently raising communication spot, so we are delighted to invite you to share your concerns for peace in a place for theatrical dramas, seminars, books, human, and culture.
